Revelation Study

Greetings!

I have really enjoyed preparing and sharing these messages for our “Coming Attractions” series.  What I enjoyed the most is how God shared truths from these chapters that I had never focused on before.  I love to learn new truths and these truths have challenged my thoughts and actions.

This Sunday we are finishing up the series by focusing on God’s promise to come again.  I love how the book of Revelation concludes with a Promise and a Challenge. I am hopeful that both will inspire you and that you will be ready for the moment that God chooses to part the sky!

Have a great week and I will look forward to seeing you Sunday!

Vision Sunday

Well Father’s Day is behind and now we are going to turn our attention towards the future of GBBC.  As many of you may know we formed a Strategic Planning Team several months ago that is chaired by Carl Pope.  They have been diligent in meeting, praying, researching, praying some more and now they are ready for me to present an initial recommendation to our church family this Sunday morning.  Actually what I am sharing is not a recommendation as much as it is a conviction.  We have earnestly sought God’s direction and now we are prepared to present this to our church family.

I am very excited about presenting this vision to our church.  GBBC is an amazing church because we are not intimidated by a challenge!  Please pray for me as I share this joint recommendation from our Strategic Planning Team, Personnel Team, Stewardship Team and Deacons.  I know there will be many questions and I want to encourage you to ask each and every question that you have.

I am going to be available to answer any questions you have during the following times.

Sunday June 27th- 4:00-6:00 p.m.     Multi-Purpose Room

Wednesday July 21st- 5:30- 7:30 p.m.  Conference Room

We will also discuss this recommendation publicly during our Church Conference Sunday night July 25th and then we will vote during a special called Church Conference Sunday morning August 1st.

Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions you have.  If you can’t make one of our scheduled times for question just find me in the foyer after church and I will be happy to answer any question that you have.

Have a wonderful week and I can’t wait to see you Sunday!!

Blessings,

Will

This morning I was reading from Jeremiah 33:1-3 which says…

“While he was still confined in the guard’s courtyard, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time:  “The Lord who made the earth, the Lord who forms it to establish it, the Lord is His name, says this: Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and wondrous things you do not know.”

Typically when I think about Jeremiah my heart really goes out to him.  Jeremiah wasn’t exactly the most well received prophet in his day.  It breaks my heart to think about this man who loved God more than life itself was banned from the temple to worship simply because the people rejected his message.   However, even though his situation may not have been ideal… Jeremiah still found encouragement in the words of the Lord, and so can we.  Let’s look specifically at how God encouraged Jeremiah in this text.

First, God encouraged Jeremiah to Pray.  “Call to me.” It is clear that God desires us to come to him.  God wants us to stand in His counsel and wait for a word from Him.  As a father longs for his child to call so does God desire for us to call on Him.

Second, God encouraged Jeremiah by Promising to Answer“I will answer you.”   Sometimes we make commitments we cannot keep but God has made a commitment that He intends to keep.   God will not only hear us when we call but He will answer!

Third, God encourages Jeremiah by Promising to Reveal what is Hidden.  “tell you great and wondrous things you do not know.”  This encourages me because all of us face decisions or circumstances that leave us perplexed yet require our immediate attention.  It thrills me that God promises to provide and reveal answers to the issues of life.  That means I don’t have to spend my life making decisions based on my limited knowledge and understanding.   This is encouraging!

In just a few short weeks we will be dedicating our new prayer room which will be available 24/7!  Let me encourage you to begin making plans to utilize this room as a part of your spiritual growth.  You will learn about prayer, how to pray for others in our fellowship and most importantly, you will grow spiritually as you approach the God who desires that you call out to Him!

Have a Great Week!!

C.S. Lewis: “God cannot give us happiness apart from Himself, because there is no such thing.”

This quote by C.S. Lewis has gripped my heart this morning.  How often do I focus on trying to manufacture happiness by investing my time, talents and energy into the things that bring temporary happiness?  It is my hope and prayer that I will remember that true happiness comes from developing an intimate walk with God.  I have to admit that there are times I pour a great deal of time and energy into activities and walk away disappointed. I can honestly say, I have never spent time with God and felt disappointed.

This Sunday we are going to take a few moments to discuss “The Key to a Fulfilled Life.”  I am excited to share the story of Naaman the Leper from 2 Kings 5.  Let me encourage you to take a look at that text and begin to think about what Naaman had to do in order to experience the power of God in his life.   It is imperative that we remember that we cannot experience fulfillment in life apart from experiencing the power of God in our lives.

I can’t wait till Sunday!

Saints!

Okay… I know that this weekend is Memorial Day weekend and everyone is telling me to expect a lighter crowd than normal!  Well I hear what they are saying and certainly I have seen that happen before… but before you finalize your plans for this weekend let me encourage you to make Sunday morning at GBBC a part of your Memorial Weekend schedule!

I am so excited to share from God’s Word this Sunday!  We are going to look at 1 Peter 1:3-5 and discover the Enduring, Living Hope that God has in store for His children!  This week’s message will be heavy on hope and it will inspire us in our walk with Christ!

Also, before I sign off let me thank you for the great participation in our pictorial directory!  I just spoke to Butch and we have to add a couple of days to make sure that everyone will have the opportunity to be included.  Thank you so much for your enthusiasm for our ministry and your willingness to show your support!

Have a great week and I can’t wait to see you this Sunday!!

Greetings!

I have really enjoyed preparing and presenting these series of messages on the stories of Genesis.  Each week I am more and more thankful for a God who is able to do amazing things!  This week we will be finishing the series by looking at the story of the Tower of Babel and will even seek to answer some very difficult questions.  Let me take a moment to encourage you to invite a friend to come with you this week as we close out this series.

Also, I am very excited about  Great Bridge Baptist has talent this Saturday night @ 6:00 p.m.  It is my understanding that this is going to be an entertaining and humiliating night! Tickets are still available online.  I hope you will be able to come out and support our student choir ministry fund raiser.

Have a great week and I will look forward to seeing you this weekend.

Greetings!!!

I am so excited about beginning our new message series “Genesis: Fact or Fiction”!  Over the next four weeks we will be exploring different accounts from Genesis that stretch our faith!  This week I will be discussing the creation story and share with you why I believe the biblical account.  I will also be sharing questions that I have for evolutionists which have caused me to question the THEORY of Evolution.

I think this is an important message for the church to hear because for many years secularists have been trying to sow seeds of doubt concerning the existence of God, and the Theory of Evolution is the major weapon in their arsenal.  So I am looking forward to shining the light of scripture and faith on this subject!

I hope to see you Sunday!!!

March 19, 2010

I can’t tell you how much I have been looking forward to this time of the year.  Okay… it is not because I am a huge college basketball fan but because we are approaching Easter!  I love this time of year because I get to proclaim the greatest life changing message of all time!  I am always encouraged to remember that the God who can conquer death, Hell and the grave can conquer any issues I am struggling with in my life.

Here is a list of the messages for the next three weeks at Great Bridge Baptist Church.

·        March 21, 2010   “The Ultimate Victory”  1 Corinthians 15: 54-58

·        March 28, 2010   “Why Did Jesus Choose to Die?”  Romans 3:9-30

·        April 4, 2010        “Why the Resurrection?”  Matthew 28:1-10

Let me encourage you to read the passages of scripture listed with each sermon title and begin to prepare your heart to hear a word from God.

I can’t wait to see you this Sunday!

February 19, 2010

Thanks for checking in!  I am glad that we have this format where I can share with you what God is doing in my heart as we get ready for Sunday each week.  Each Sunday morning we get to come in and experience the result of what has taken place during the week.  It is my hope that from now on we can share in this experience.  Every week I will be sharing with you how God is speaking to my heart about the text of scripture we will be using on Sunday morning.  This will give you the opportunity to prepare your heart for worship each week.  You will have the opportunity to study the text before coming and spend time in prayer for God to work in our services!

Not only will I be sharing about our Sunday morning worship service but I will also post thoughts and quotes that have jumped out at me while in my study each week.  I can’t wait to see how God uses this blog!  I am praying it will be a wonderful spiritual journey for me as well as for those who check in each week!  God bless you and I will look forward to seeing on Sunday!!!

Blessings,

Will

P.S- This Sunday we are looking at 2 Samuel  24:17-25.  It is a great story about a man named Araunah!  He teaches us that little is indeed much… when God is in it!
